Introduction

Age of History 3 is a grand strategy game that encourages a balance between tech and numbers. You will be able to steamroll the AI using either one, but you will be able to win a 4v1 war using both of them.

I recommend playing a medium-sized nation in the beginning, like Iran in the 2022 start date. This will mean that you can both make allies and invade smaller nations at the beginning of your playthrough and as such make your way slowly but surely into the top 10.

First 5 years

The AI will always be able to spawn more troops in the beginning than you, no matter how big of a “great power” you might be. As such, I heavily recommend allying a bigger AI nation in the beginning. This is much easier in the first few years of the game because a lot of the strong nations don’t start off with alliances.

The second the game starts you want to wait to get enough diplo mana to be able to improve relations with a great power you have -20 relations with or better and then improve it and wait until you can ally them. Try to make sure they are relatively close because you need them to get to you in order for them to help you.

After you manage to get them to help you, begin to spam monthly income buildings. You will usually want to only build monthly maintenance buildings in these first 5 years.

Make sure to get all the advisors you can. They are super worth it!

If someone declares war on you in these first years, your buddy should come and kick their ass.

The mid-game

After you get a bit of income, you will want to build your army to your regiment limit. You can see this by clicking your country while fully zoomed out. Try to have equal parts of the 3 unit types (front line, flank and support).

Once you’ve built up, invade a neighbor of an equal size. Call your ally by clicking on their name (with a red background) in the Declaration of War menu. If your relations are too high, give them enough insults until you are able to. You will probably die, but your ally will kill their economy and spam mercs so they will steamroll your enemy. After that, take as much land as you can and rebuild your army.

After every war like this, you will want to save up enough money to core every province. This is very important, as uncored provinces will constantly revolt. If the provinces are of a different religion, you will want to convert them as well.

!!! You will want to see when your alliance expires. Improve your relations with your ally a few years in advance so that you will have high enough relations with them to really them after the alliance expires

After you do this for a few times, and get in the top 20 or so in the world, you can move onto the next step of the guide.

Power spike

After you get into the top 20 in the world, you should have a decent position and you should be able to defend yourself against basically anything the world throws at you. At this point, we can start snowballing hard.

The most OP things in this game are LEGACIES. Especially MILITARY legacies. We will want all of them.

You should build enough legacy-producing administrative buildings to be able to produce 10-20 legacy. After this, try to get every legacy to level 2. You should focus on the economic and military legacies.

While you do this, you can keep conquering your neighbors, but at this point in the game, your money should go to legacies and not towards military production.

After this, you should make sure you have maxed out your capital too. Not only the “Capital City”, but also the military academy, general military academy and supreme court. These are VERY important as well and missing out on upgrading them will neuter your army.

After you have completed this step, make sure to get your army to regiment limit again. By this point, your army should be almost unbeatable, even if you’re fighting 4 nations at once.

End-game: the steamroll

After you’ve amassed your unstoppable army, you can basically do whatever you want. You can kill your ally, which is probably just as strong as you now, because your super OP military academy makes your troops twice as good as theirs. You can crush any revolt. You can drop money on useless things. The world is truly at your feet.

Make sure to keep on top of upgrading your troops and capital stuff though, otherwise you might get a nasty surprise from the AI, though you can probably spam enough mercs at that point for that not to be a huge problem.

Watch out for what formables you choose, because some lock you out of further formables. For example, as Wallachia, you can form Dacia, which locks you out of the European Union.

Ending notes

With this knowledge, you should hopefully finally be able to make it past the beginning of the game and begin your journey as a true achievement hunter and AoH3 no-lifer.

I will give you a few tips that apply towards the entirety of your playthrough, however:

-UPGRADE YOUR CAPITAL CITY! Your Capital City upgrades are the most important upgrade in the game, because they raise your research cap. Researching stuff will put you at a serious advantage over the AI, so being unable to do it will destroy your nation.

-Keeping on top of advisors is very important. You can probably increase your income by 25% at any point in the game with the right combination of advisors.

-You can upgrade your troops by clicking the manpower mana tab at the top then clicking the “upgrade” button.

-While you can only have 1 alliance, you can have multiple defensive pacts. Just improve your relations with a stronger nation until you are able to request a defensive pact. This is especially helpful earlier on, when you might have a superpower as your neighbor who isn’t allied to you.

-This game is much more fun with a gourd of Rosamonte Seleccion Especial. Why suffer while being tired when you can suffer while being super alert? That’s a real life hack!

-Early start dates are harder because in later start dates the superpowers nuke each others to death. You will also get nuked to death if you invade a superpower, but it won’t matter because your legacies will carry you through it.
